Perugia, between History and Culture
Perugia, a city of art extremely rich in monuments, culture and history, is located on a system of hills where the historic center of the city develops right on the crest of the hills, forming an acropolis and five medieval villages. By visiting the city throughout its many streets, it is possible to relive its centuries-old history, starting from its Umbrian and Etruscan origins, then passing through the events that witnessed it as protagonist during the Roman period, up to the glories of the Medieval City-State Age and the Renaissance.
After seeing the wonderful historic center and all the intriguing places just mentioned, all that remains is to enjoy a few moments on the shores of the wonderful Lake Trasimeno, a natural oasis in which it is truly worth making a stop.
The lake has three islands, two of which can currently be visited, namely Polvese Island and Maggiore Island. The first is part of the Trasimeno Regional Park and gives off a very luxuriant vibe with centuries-old olive groves and tons of places of cultural interest. The second, the only inhabited island of Trasimeno, boasts of ancient palaces, religious sites and an ancient castle.
Lake Trasimeno is also surrounded by small villages, each with unique and distinct characteristics. Among these, you can find Castiglione del Lago, Città della Pieve, and Passignano sul Trasimeno.
